The owners of this house in the Richmond district wanted to substantially increase the size of their house, by adding on to the back, and capturing some of the lower level courtyard and storage space. The original upper level layout was flip-flopped, opening up 2 back bedrooms to become the family room/kitchen, and the kitchen & living room became 2 bedrooms. The center wall in what is now the family room was removed, and the ceiling raised, creating a voluminous space. The lower level garage/basement was converted to livable space, with an entry hall, laundry area, bath, study, 2 bedrooms, and a master bath. The area over the bedrooms became a deck serving the family room, and new dining room. |
