Nakagawa/Ryan Residence,
San Jose, CA
Description:
Rear addition and interior remodel of a ranch house in sub-urban San Jose
Goals:
In designing this rear addition, it would have been very easy to completely obliterate any access, and sense of (already not good) connection to the rear yard. By incorporating a center court design, and a "hub" off the kitchen, we have attempted to create series of interesting and usable indoor/outdoor spaces which make the open space more usable, enticing, and accessible. The light-filled "hub" is a centralized space, which connects several rooms, and can be opened up to the back yard. Aside from being used for circulation, this multi-function space could act as a family room, a dining room, or studio.
Plans:
1st floor I 2nd floor
